The 4th Court of Appeals selects Michael Ritter as its next Original Proceedings Attorney

The 4th Court has selected Michael Ritter to be its next original proceedings attorney (OPA). The primary responsibility of the OPA is to work for and with all seven judges in handling original proceedings, including initial screening of all petitions for extraordinary writs and related motions, such as emergency motions for temporary relief, and written and oral analysis of the law as applied to the facts presented.

The court’s current OPA, Pamela Jewell, previously a long-serving in-chambers staff attorney with Chief Justice Marion, will be moving back into her chambers until the Chief’s retirement, and will then work with the new appointee.

Michael will start as the OPA on January 1, 2021 (effectively January 4th with the holiday and weekend). At the 4th Court, Michael has served as a briefing attorney for Justice Rebecca Simmons (2010-11), and he returned to the court in 2014 as a staff attorney in the chambers of Justice Luz Elena Chapa. Michael is TBLS Board Certified in Civil Appellate Law & Criminal Appellate Law.
