Michael is the first candidate openly from the LGBTQ+ community to be nominated for a statewide State Bar election in Texas.
Overcoming a speech impediment known as "cluttering," Michael became interested in the law through high school debate. He graduated from Trinity University and UT Law, and clerked at two state appellate courts.
Before rejoining the San Antonio court of appeals as a career staff attorney, Michael was an Assistant Attorney General, and litigated primarily in Houston, El Paso, and rural cities throughout Texas.
Michael is a first-generation lawyer, and works a part-time job in the education industry outside of his role at the court.
As a survivor of conversion therapy and childhood sexual abuse, Michael volunteers to benefit at-risk youth, particularly those who identify as LGBTQ+.
